Sump Pump Cost Estimator

Use this tool to compare your project with current published sump-pump cost benchmarks. It covers repair, replacement, Chicago installation, and battery-backup work.

Pricing checked October 1, 2026. The estimator deliberately does not apply made-up percentage multipliers for “complexity.” Instead, it shows source-backed benchmark ranges and flags the parts of your scope that can move a real quote outside those ranges.

Not a quote: these figures come from third-party market cost guides. They are not prices offered or guaranteed by this website.

Compare Your Project With Current Benchmarks

If battery backup is the main project selected above, leave this at No.

Current Chicago Installation Benchmark

Angi’s Chicago-specific June 2026 data reports a normal professional sump-pump installation range of $829 to $1,554, averaging $1,140. Its broader Chicago range is about $800 to $4,000, depending on pump size, type, excavation and overall project scope.

A separate March 2026 Chicagoland guide from Four Seasons reports about $800 to $1,500, averaging roughly $1,100, which provides a second local reference for many standard installations.

Current Repair Benchmark

HomeAdvisor’s current national repair guide, updated June 17, 2026, lists a normal range of $309 to $755, averaging about $531.

This is national data. A Chicago repair quote can be outside the range based on the failed component, labor, access, pump type and emergency timing.

Why Replacement Is Shown as Two Benchmarks

Current 2026 national replacement sources do not agree closely enough to justify one precise range.

The responsible way to use those figures is to compare the actual replacement scope—pump model, basin, valve, discharge, access and electrical work—rather than averaging the sources together.

Current Chicago Battery-Backup Benchmark

Angi’s Chicago-specific June 2026 guide lists a battery-backup add-on at approximately $1,000 to $2,900.

Because backup work can share labor or piping with a primary-pump project, the estimator does not simply add $1,000-$2,900 to another benchmark and present that sum as a quote.

Why the Tool Does Not Use a “Complexity Multiplier”

A flat 10%, 15%, or 35% surcharge for complexity would look precise without being supported by the underlying cost datasets. Basin excavation, discharge changes, electrical work and emergency response do not increase every project by the same percentage.

The estimator therefore flags those scope items instead of inventing a mathematical adjustment.

How to Compare Quotes

A lower total is not necessarily cheaper if the quotes cover different scopes.

Sump Pump Cost Estimator FAQ

Is this sump pump cost estimator a quote?

No. It compares your project with published market benchmarks. An actual quote requires the scope, existing equipment, access, discharge, electrical requirements and other site conditions to be defined.

What is the current Chicago sump-pump installation range?

Angi’s June 2026 Chicago data lists a normal range of $829 to $1,554 and an average of $1,140, with a broader Chicago range of roughly $800 to $4,000 depending on size, type and project complexity.

Why does the estimator show two replacement benchmarks?

Current 2026 national sources disagree materially. Angi lists $309-$755 for professional replacement, while HomeAdvisor lists $645-$2,120. The tool shows both instead of averaging them into a misleading single range.

How much can battery backup add in Chicago?

Angi’s current Chicago guide lists a battery-backup add-on at about $1,000-$2,900. The actual price depends on the backup pump, battery, controls, basin space, discharge setup and work already included in the primary project.

Why doesn’t the tool add a fixed emergency fee?

Emergency and after-hours charges vary by provider. Current repair guidance indicates emergency work can cost more, but there is no single defensible Chicago percentage to add to every job.

Does a new sump basin increase cost?

Usually. A new or substantially modified basin can add concrete cutting, excavation, materials, cleanup, drainage integration and labor compared with replacing a pump in a sound existing basin.

Use the Benchmark to Improve the Quote Request

When requesting service, include whether a usable pit already exists, whether the pump currently runs, whether the discharge needs work, whether backup protection is wanted, and whether water is actively rising.
